Since I was just a boy I have enjoyed using a camera, the idea of being able to capture a moment in time and freeze it forever certainly is enticing. I have been doing photography for years now and my style has been developing, from the type of photography to the style I edit my pictures, there has been constant development, and I’m still progressing. Now I’m studying Marine and Natural History Photography at Falmouth University in Cornwall, it feels like I’ve been a photographer for such a long time and yet my career is only in the making.
Photography
My life basically revolves around my photography, especially now that I’m studying it! I try to shoot whenever I get the chance (which is quite often) and I’m always carrying a camera on me. I have a passion for it and I have a burning desire to one day travel the world shooting photography and film. Fujifilm has always been my go-to for cameras, my first proper camera was the Fujifilm X-T1, I now shoot with the Fujifilm X-T4, which is my main camera, my favourite lens would be the XF 14mm f2.8, I absolutely love a wide angle lens, I can fit so much in frame with it which makes it a perfect lens for landscape photography because I can include a good portion of foreground which I find often makes my images more interesting. I also use the XF 18-55mm f2.8 which is a versatile wide-medium lens, I also have a few other lenses that are a bit more specific such as my macro lens. Photography is important to me because it is greatly therapeutic for me. I find it can really help clear my mind and I love the process. Some of my inspirations are Thomas Heaton, Nigel Danson, William Patino, Martin Parr, Alan Schaller, Steve McCurry, and multiple Magnum documentary photographers.
Life Outside of Photography
I am half-English, half-Danish and I grew up in a small town in Essex, England with my amazing family who are partly the reason I’ve come so far as a photographer. I also have family in Denmark who I love very much and I have a Tabby cat called Tabbie (Yes I know it’s a basic name) who is extremely adorable and friendly.
I have a lot going on outside of photography. I am an avid gymgoer, I recently started playing Futsal, before that I had been playing Football for about 12-13 years, I enjoy being in nature even when I’m not taking pictures so camping and hiking is good fun for me, and I love spending time out with my mates (which often includes having a few cheeky pints).
Future Plans
I am working on setting up a YouTube channel going by the name of JTSM, the point of this channel will be to show people what it’s like studying a photography course at university, to show the general behind the scenes of how I get my photos, what I do for editing, my progress as a photographer, and more.
